Arthurian Gift Exchange: Holiday Edition!

dusk-and-shiver:

Greetings, everyone!

This is a copy of the email I just sent out in regards to the Holiday Edition of the AGE.  If you did not get this email, or if you are a new participant who has not yet joined us (but who would like to) read on!  If you’ve gotten the email, feel free to disregard the remainder of this post.
Now; to the important stuff!  It is time to start deciding how this round of the exchange should operate.  Many of you are currently embroiled in the chaos of NaNoWriMo (my sympathies - I’m Seasongs over there, if anyone would like to be writing buddies!), but the typically insane nature of the early winter months makes me think that it’s better to start this process earlier rather than later.  Please take a look at the following information and proposed dates, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Firstly, I have decided that the theme for this round will be ‘When Myths Collide’.  As with all themes, you are free to be as specific or as vague in interpretation as you wish.  Additionally, themes will not be assigned this time - you are free to select any fairy/folk tale, myth, or legend you wish, from any country, culture, or time period, and run with it! Arthurian Legend is itself a mythos, so the idea here is to either introduce elements from your chosen legend/etc. into the Arthurian world, or the other way around.  Characters, plot elements, visual themes, direct quotes - however you wish to do this is absolutely fine.
Because there is so much freedom of interpretation from the author’s side this time around, prompts will be more vague in this edition of the exchange, and will be assigned in a sort of ‘Secret Santa’ format.  Here’s how that’s going to work: all participants will submit a prompt consisting of three elements.  These elements can be anything you like: pictures, words, quotes, songs, YouTube videos, whatever you want!  For example, one prompt could be something like, “Silver.  ’With great power comes great responsibility.’  [Picture of a deer.]”  Feel free to use whatever you’d like to as a prompt.  Anything goes!  Prompts will be numbered by me as they come in (ie, the first prompt I receive will be number 1, the second number 2, etc.) and all participants will be assigned a number via a random online number generator.  The prompt with the participant’s number shall be their prompt, unless it is their own prompt, in which case I will rearrange prompt assignments as necessary.
Now: this is a lot to incorporate into one story or piece of art, and I want participants to have more time to work on their submissions for this round.  For this reason, and keeping in mind that the holidays are traditionally insane for everyone, here are my proposed dates:
November 10th: Sign-Up Deadline
November 15th: Prompts Due
November 16th: Prompt Assignments Given Out
December 10th: Participant Check-In (participants contact me to let me know how things are going)
December 17th: Beta Readers assigned (if needed)
December 31st: Submissions Due
January 1st-8th: Submissions Posted to the AGE Blog
How does that look?  Everyone would have about a month and a half to write, which, I hope, would give everyone plenty of time to work around their schedules.  (Submissions can of course be sent in early for those of you would like to finish before the late-December madness starts.)  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the proposed schedule.
I am still without a functioning computer, and the Tumblr app does not work terribly well on my cellphone.  However, I am able to easily check and reply to email.  For this reason especially, I am requesting that all AGE correspondence this round be sent to my email account (cinereous.carousel@gmail.com) and NOT to my Tumblr Ask Box.  (I will do my best to reply to any Asks received, but I can’t promise that I will see those messages quickly.  It is much better to send your comments or queries here.)  Sign-ups or Prompts sent to the Ask box WILL NOT be considered officially submitted until they hit my inbox, so please, send everything here!  I will likewise be contacting you via email this round.  If you would prefer that I use a different account from the one currently on record for you (ie, the one I send this email to), please let me know.  If you’re reading this on the blog and haven’t yet corresponded with me via email, please send me a message so that I can have your address ~ I promise, your email address will never be shared with anyone, ever, and all emails from me will be confined directly to the AGE.  I BCC all messages to protect your privacy.
I think that does it!  Feel free to shoot me any questions or comments, and if you’re ready to sign-up, go ahead and do so!  As a reminder, sign-ups will close November 10th at midnight.  If you know of someone else who might be interested, please feel free to forward them this message and/or share my email address with them.  Thank you!
Hope everyone is doing well, and that you’ll all decide to participate!

I liiive ….

dusk-and-shiver:

dusk-and-shiver:

Hello there, everyone ~

I want to deeply and sincerely apologize for the total failure that happened on my end last round, and the complete communication breakdown which followed in its wake. The short version of my explanation is that life (read: work) got away from me, I am STILL without a computer (5 months and counting), and my pocket modem’s battery swelled, rendering me completely internet-less for quite a few weeks until I could scrape together the $100 needed to replace it. This has not been a fantastic year for me, technology-wise.

On top of that, quite a few of you were experiencing life glitches of your own and never did submit your stories (which I mention entirely without judgement, as I likewise wasn’t able to complete mine.)

Essentially, absolutely everything fell through the cracks this time around, and I count it a wash. Sincerest apologies again, and if you haven’t already, I strongly encourage those of you who did finish your submissions to post them to your own blogs, so that the online community can appreciate all your hard work the way it deserves to be appreciated. <3

Also, for anyone who’s now wondering why I was still on Tumblr occasionally throughout this, I have a smart phone, and - when I can actually coax it into finding a signal - I sometimes use it to browse my dash as an insomnia-induced alternative to sleeping. It remains, however, generally useless at sending/receiving messages and handling lengthy posts (or doing anything whatsoever with html.)

Now, all that being said: 5 months has given me time to reconfigure my online life around the absence of a functioning computer, and I have (finally) replaced my wireless modem. Assuming I haven’t completely lost your faith, I’d still very much like to try for a holiday round. So; what say you? Is there still interest here in a holiday Arthurian gift exchange, or would it be best to let sleeping dogs lie at this point? If you’re still interested in another round, send me an Ask and let me know ~

Thanks, everyone, and again, my sincerest apologies. You’ve all been patient and kind and generally good souls, and I really appreciate it!

Reblogging for the next shift.

One final reblog for the last group.  (Sorry for all the repeat posting, guys - it’s notoriously difficult to get a group of people to see anything on Tumblr. D:)

Stories Due!

Hello, everyone!  Huge apologies for the long radio silence, and for failing to get the beta system together in time for this round - things have been completely insane, and I’m afraid absolutely everything non-work related as slipped through the cracks of my life at the moment.  Life will slow to a normal pace again after August, however, so I promise to be more on the ball with everything come the holiday round.

In the meantime, fics are due in my inbox today.  However, since I’m currently on vacation and entertaining house guests, I won’t be able to even look at your emails until Monday - so if you need a few extra days, please feel free to take them.  I understand that I have been lax in reminding you, and that many of you are probably every bit as busy as I have been.  Any submission received by Monday, August 19th will still be considered as making the deadline.

Thanks!  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and I appreciate your patience.  Can’t wait to read all your wonderful submissions!

Deadline Reminder: Prompt Claims ~

This is just a friendly reminder that I need all three prompt claims for everyone no later than today/tomorrow (depending on your time zone), July 22nd.  Once the last few claims are in, I’ll be sending out an Ask letting each participant know which prompt and element (for the elemental theme) they’ve been assigned.  Asks do often get swallowed up in the ether, however, so if you haven’t received a prompt assignment by Tuesday, please let me know.

ALSO: I am a huge fan of Tumblr’s willingness to let you change your username without any consequence to your personal blog; I myself have had at least half a dozen different names over the past few years.  However, please don’t forget to notify me if you do decide to change your name.  I have been trying to send out reminders and notifications all week for the various writing exchanges that I run, and have encountered problems in this area more times than I would like to count.  Thank you!

(Incidentally - anglo-obsessedgirl, if you see this, please let me know your new username.  Thanks!)

Summer Round: Prompts!

Hello again!  Thank you for submitting your prompts.  I’ve heard from everyone now, which means that prompts are now officially live for claiming!

Here’s a brief refresher on how this works: Please read the prompts (listed below the cut) and send me an ask no later than Monday, July 22nd with your top three choices.  Typing only the number is ok; you don’t have to copy-and-paste the entire prompt.  Please remember to list the prompts in order of your preference (for example, the first prompt is your top choice; the second prompt is your second choice, etc.)

Once all prompt claims have been received, I will enter your username into a random list generator.  Everyone will be assigned a prompt in that order.  All attempts to give everyone a prompt from their top three will be made; however, do keep in mind that this is a gift exchange, which means that it is important that every participant receive a gift.  You may be asked to reselect your top three choices so that all participants have one of their prompts claimed.

That should do it!  Feel free to message me with any questions or concerns, and happy claiming!

Sign-up Dead Reminder + Prompts open ~

Hello, everyone!  This is just a friendly reminder that the deadline for Summer Round sign-ups is today, July 12th. If you’ve been on the fence about joining us for this round, now’s the time to decide!  Simply send me an ask to throw your hat into the ring.

For those of who who are already signed up, you can start submitting your three prompts anytime.  Prompts are due to me by Wednesday, July 17th.  Remember, recycling your old, unused prompts from Round One is perfectly okay (as is creating entirely new prompts), and don’t forget to include any triggers/squicks you might have, as well as a note if you are underage.  Thanks!
